I saw this piece of content on Instagram today: "When I meet someone new: Them: 'I hear you're into running!' Me: 'Yea, but I don't think you're fully prepared for this conversation.'" ...and I straight up SNORTED. I loved it. Because running is a big deal for us! And it shows, especially if someone is willing to open that door and start the conversation. Which reminded me... I haven't asked YOU recently. How's your running going? Were there race specific goals you wanted to accomplish in 2025? Or new training blocks you want to try? Have you gotten started on chasing down those dream PRs? Because unless you have a tight knit running group or a running bestie, it can be hard to go after those running goals by yourself. That's what makes the running community, and THIS community, the Running Fit Fam, unique. You are supported. And I want you to know: you're still a runner if... you have to rebuild. If you have to take walk breaks. If you've never ran a marathon. If you don't race regularly. If you run without a watch. Or you're super serious and analyze every piece of data. If you're devoted to Strava or don't even a profile. If you run most of your runs on a treadmill or a track... What matters here is that you lace up your shoes. You head out the door. And you show up for yourself. If you have giant running goals like getting a BQ, running all 7 majors, getting super speedy,...fantastic! If you love running local desert trails because it brings you the most surreal peace and tranquility that helps you face the day...amazing. With so much nonsense floating around the internet, division in local communities, and a general feeling of "uugghhh", maybe we need to have more conversations about running? Maybe now is a great time to share your joy for our sport. To invite someone to come along. To make extra time to go that extra mile with a friend. To give yourself the gift of getting clear on your race goals and planning how to make them happen. Because why wouldn't we share something with our friends, family (....the world?) that brings us such happiness, grounding, resolution, peace... what makes us better humans? You've probably guessed by now: no blog post this week. Just this hopefully motivational, questionably inspirational ;), pep talk delivered right to your inbox. Because getting to hang out with you all and having this conversation about running: that brings me just as much joy as a strong, smooth run. Thanks for being here, running fit fam. And truly-email me back and tell me how running is going if you need a pick me up or you're super proud of something, no matter how big or small. I know the lingering cold weather has you questioning if warmer temps and longer runs will EVER actually get here... but they will. (and if you'd like to steal some of my warm and too-humid-too-soon weather in northern Alabama, I will gladly trade for cooler temps lol) But with spring (and eventually summer) slooowly coming around the corner, I feel like this is "Runner's New Year"... that time in your training plan where you can't help but wonder, "what CAN I accomplish this year? How far...
You can bet, when it comes to the strength training mistakes that runners make… I’ve probably made most of them. I had a coach tell me before to do 2 x 50 body weight lunges to fix my runner’s knee. Didn’t work. It just left me sore. I went on a whole HIIT workout-spree in grad school. I got really sweaty and only a little stronger. I tried a billion push ups and all the body weight exercises you could think of during Covid because all the gyms were closed. I got better at push ups, but that...
Raise your hand if you love reading about running or workout plans. ok, maybe this is more for the nerdy runners here…but aren’t we all secretly kinda nerdy, pouring over strava data and hoping our garmins don’t tell us we were unproductive? Case in point: data is fun. It tells us what we’ve achieved. Where we fell short. And usually based on all that…how we can do EVEN BETTER next time. The only thing that would be cooler: is skipping the “where we fell short” part. What if you could? What...
