I'm gonna start off with, YES, this week's blog post is different.Because it needed to be.Because I would be doing you a HUGE disservice if I kept throwing MORE at you. Just more. No explanation. No guidance. Just more exercises, more reps, more ways to use gym equipment or recovery tools. Because a HUGE mistake that I made as a new runner: assuming more was better. More miles = the better your base. More hard workouts = the faster you get. More hills = the stronger you get. Well......let's just say those assumptions fell apart pretty fast once injuries started to stack up. The problem is: I still see this this bull cookie approach on the internet. And the worse part is, it's so common, so prevalent, that we assume it's true. It's not. Sometimes, more is just more. And this is something as runners, that we need to work on. A lot of times we strive to do it all.Do more. Hit the highest end of our mileage range, because that must be better, right? Not always the case. I got a message from a runner I'm working with about a month ago and she had some fantastic questions about:
In her message I recognized 5 Lies that I believed when I was a newer runner.and it was because I didn't have answers. And they sounded good, so they must be true, right?? And I see these lies perpetuated STILL. So in case you ever get a touch of the more-is-more-itis and you need to reign yourself back in... Or maybe you've wondered these questions like I did 10 years ago... Let's go check out that blog post together.

I know the lingering cold weather has you questioning if warmer temps and longer runs will EVER actually get here... but they will. (and if you'd like to steal some of my warm and too-humid-too-soon weather in northern Alabama, I will gladly trade for cooler temps lol) But with spring (and eventually summer) slooowly coming around the corner, I feel like this is "Runner's New Year"... that time in your training plan where you can't help but wonder, "what CAN I accomplish this year? How far...
I saw this piece of content on Instagram today: "When I meet someone new: Them: 'I hear you're into running!' Me: 'Yea, but I don't think you're fully prepared for this conversation.'" ...and I straight up SNORTED. I loved it. Because running is a big deal for us! And it shows, especially if someone is willing to open that door and start the conversation. Which reminded me... I haven't asked YOU recently. How's your running going? Were there race specific goals you wanted to accomplish in...
You can bet, when it comes to the strength training mistakes that runners make… I’ve probably made most of them. I had a coach tell me before to do 2 x 50 body weight lunges to fix my runner’s knee. Didn’t work. It just left me sore. I went on a whole HIIT workout-spree in grad school. I got really sweaty and only a little stronger. I tried a billion push ups and all the body weight exercises you could think of during Covid because all the gyms were closed. I got better at push ups, but that...
